Barnabas Awards

Barnabas Awards recognize people who conspicuously live a Christian life and who encourage others to do so, especially in situations where the secular society exerts strong pressures on them to conceal or renounce their Christian values.

National Barnabas Awards are given annually and very selectively. There is a substantial monetary award for the recipient of a national Barnabas Award.

Community-level awards in two categories, Adult and Youth, are made several times a year. There is usually a small monetary reward as well as the Barnabas Award certificate. Press releases are sent to local media to publicize the achievements of these community stand-outs.

Nominations are made by individuals with whom the nominee has had personal experience, and usually live in the nominee's own area. The claims made for nominees who are selected to be potential Award recipients will be verified through at least two independent, credible sources. The Board of Directors of the Barnabas Institute sets the criteria for selecting the award recipients.

Periodically, a "Call for Nominations for Barnabas Awards" is made though local churches and other organizations, with extensive media support so that the widest possible net will be cast. The purpose of the Call is to encourage citizens to recognize Christians in the community, as well as to locate worthy nominees. Nominations may also be made online.

The Barnabas Institute accomplishes its purposes through small group activities, publications, research, grants, online discussions, awards, a Visiting Scholar program, conferences, and partnerships with other ministries that have similar goals.

As soon as the Barnabas Award Committee has finalized the criteria which must be met for a nominee to be eligible for a Barnabas Award, the criteria will be released to the Press and posted on this web site.
