His name means Son of Encouragement. Founded in 2001 as a California religious corporation, the Barnabas Institute has been approved for 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status. Its staff are mostly volunteers; its income comes from foundations, grants, and donations by supporters. The Institute neither seeks nor accepts government funds. The Barnabas Institute plans to make Barnabas Awards, to invite leading thinkers to serve as Visiting Scholars, to host conferences, and to develop ongoing programs of inspiration, training, and support which will enable Christians to encourage each other. |
