Happy Valentine's Day

January 26, 2007

I Just Called to Say I Love You was a Stevie Wonder song in 1984 that stated matter-of-factly the essence of a warm, loving relationship – relationships the way we want them to be – with love not needing an excuse to be expressed. Valentine’s Day, February 14th, gives us an opportunity to “just call” but in a little more formal and commercial way. The sentiment remains as a tender expression of true love.

According to legend, St. Valentine, a Catholic priest, was martyred as the result of performing marriages at a time when marriages were suspended to raise a Roman army. The difference between “just calling” and the sacrifice of Valentine’s Day can be very little. Jesus came to save us and bring us to His loving Father. His song and His sacrifice ring in our hearts – as does the Father’s love.
