Transformed How?

August 12, 2004

We are living in a world of real danger and uncertainty. It’s always been that way. Still, we have so much to be grateful for. We’ve not been attacked since 9/11. The economy is getting better. We have a political system that allows us to change without the trauma of war.

People don’t seem that anxious anymore. At least not as anxious they were even a short while ago.

So why should anyone want to take on one of those major life change in his or her life? What’s the big deal? The question is a basic one. The answer lies in the metamorphosis brought on by becoming a follower of Christ, so that we take on His character.

Paul the Apostle said in 2 Corinthians 5:17; “Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” The real question is “Why crawl when you can fly?”

What you don’t get in the “everything is just good enough right now” mode are certain “gifts” – “the gifts of the spirit” they’re called. In 1 Corinthians 2:14 Paul wrote. “The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”

So we can choose to be transformed or we can choose to just wait. The real problem is that we don’t know what we’re missing in “just waiting” mode. Some of us would rather fly.
